Médan

Médan is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called Médanais.

Geography

The commune of Médan is at the edge of the the Seine on left bank of the river to approximately 12 kilometers in the North-West of Poissy.

The communal territory includes/understands a narrow band in edge of the Seine to approximately 25 meters of altitude and extends behind on the slopes generally located between 85 and 90 meters from altitude. It also includes part of the island of Platais, accessible only by boat. It is slightly urbanized, the rural areas still rprésentant nearly the two-thirds of the total including approximately 20% of wood. The habitat is concenbtré in the low part along the Seine, but overflows a little on the plate in the south of the commune.

The communes bordering are Triel-sur-Seine in the North-East (which extends essentially on other bank from the Seine), the Villennes-on-Seine in the south, Orgeval and Morainvilliers in south-west and Vernouillet in the North-West.

The communications are assured mainly by the roads D 164 and D 154, the first serving the center of the village while the second circumvents it by the west.

On the railway level, the commune is crossed by the Ligne Paris it Havre, which counts two ways here only, but does not profit any more of the services from suburbs of the relation Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty by Poissy () because the halt with periodic service road ('' Médan '') is not served any more.

The Sentier of great excursion GR. 1 (turn of the Ile-de-France) crosses the wood of the Heathers in the west of the commune.

History

Emile Zola acquired a house in there 1878 which became the meeting room of the naturalists: Evenings of Médan
