The Phanérozoïque is a éon covering the last 542  million years. It begin with the geological Period from the Cambrien, with the appearance of the small animals with shell, then saw the development of an abundant animal life until our days. The preceding éon is the Protérozoïque, which belongs to the Précambrien, a broad period of time going from the formation of the Ground at the beginning of Phanérozoïque.

Major events

The border between the two let us éons of Protérozoïque and of Phanérozoïque is not clearly defined, the discoveries of the 20th century having pushed back the limit which was commonly allowed at the 19th century. The majority of the geologists and paleontologists place the border at the appearance of the first Trilobite S, the first Ver S called Phycodes pedum , or with the first appearances of a group of small désarticulées forms of life. These three points are during the same time, to a few million years close, in the period of the Cambrien.

Phanérozoïque sees the emergence of a great number of biological forms, the appearance of the Plante S on the dry land, then their development, the evolution of the Poisson S, the conquest of the dry land by the animals and the development of modern fauna.

During this period, the continents move and the Pangée separates, giving the six current continental masses.

Subdivisions

Phanérozoïque is divided into three era S:

  • the Paleozoic (from -542 to -251 My);
  • the Mesozoic (from -251 to -65,5 My);
  • the Cenozoic (of -65,5 My at our days).
