Lyphard

Lyphard (1969-2005) was a racehorse English Pur-sang born from Northern Dancer and Goofed , by Court Martial .

Born in Pennsylvania, Lyphard passed to the sales of November 1969 to Keeneland, then was acquired 15.000 Guineas by Alec Head in the name of the Brothers Wertheimer with those of Newmarket. It ran twelve times for six victories, of which the Prix Jacques Marois and the Prix of the Forest.

It is especially as standard which it was made known, not generating less than 24 prizes winner of Groupe 1. Installed initially with the Stud farm of Etreham in Normandy, it was not long in shining, via Durtal and Pharly. In 1978, it is transferred to Gainsway Farm in the Kentucky, where it was going to give 115 " stakes winners" , among which the aces Three Troikas, Dancing Faces, Manila and Jolypha. It was Chief candidate of the standards in France into 1978,1979, and Chief candidate of the American standards in 1986.

Withdrawn of goes up in 1996, Lyphard lived until 36 years the venerable age, doing of him one of the oldest horses of the world. It was euthanasia in June 2005 because of the infirmities due to its age.
