Lyon Internet Exchange

Lyon Internet Exchange or Lyonix is GIX NAP of the Lyon-Rhone-Alps.

Lyonix is the first terminal point of traffic Internet of Lyon and its Région. It allows the operators and the service providers Internet (international, national or regional) to exchange traffic while being connected on this point, thus avoiding passing by remote infrastructures.

This node of exchange is managed by an association with nonlucrative goal rested by actors of world Internet of Lyon. The node of exchange is lodged in a neutral place opened with all the actors who wish to connect themselves (operators, FAI, services companies…).

Lyonix is the first node of exchange created in province in France (nonParisian).

Lyonix: a GIX, for the exchange of packages IP

Lyonix: a NAP, for the place on the market of transit IP

It also makes it possible to buy or sell transit Internet, becoming thus a true neutral place on the market (not of overcosts invoicees by Lyonix and setting in direct relationship of operators IP between them). Lyonix opens thus at the nonprofessional companies of the Internet. It is advisable to specify that only the companies having needs higher than 10 Mbs (symmetrical) can economically be interested by Lyonix.

Lyonix was created within the computer center of in2P3. It is located at Villeurbanne. A second point (inter-connected with the first) started in February 2007 production within NetCenter de NeufCegetel to Vénissieux.

Several private partners among whom IBM or Accelance supports Lyonix actively.
