Lynx of Eurasia

The lynx of Eurasia or common lynx ( Lynx lynx ) is a species Lynx .

Aspect and dimensions

It is almost twice larger than that of North America but the proportions of the body remain the same ones. However the lynx of Eurasia is usually marked large well delimited black spots or scratches. The male S and the Femelle S often have a collar of long hairs around the neck and under the chin, also called favorites. The color of its fur is most variable among the lynxes. It varies white-cream with brown dark.

It weighs on average 20 kg for a male and 17 kg for a female. It measures from 60 to 70 Cm with the shoulder and its length is from 80 to 130 cm with a tail from 11 to 24 cm.

Habitat

The lynx of Eurasia prefers the forest zones with dense underwoods and covers. It can however adapt and is able to attend the rock biotopes, the clear forests and even the undergrowth. Pursued by the man, it has disappeared for several centuries from the majority from the forests from plain. It was recently reintroduced in certain areas of Germany, of Yugoslavia, Suisse, Italy, Austria and France. It is present maintaining in Western Europe, in Russia, Scandinavia, minor Asia, Iran and Iraq. To the East it goes until in Mongolia, Mandchourie and to the mountainous regions of the Central Asia.

In France, it disappears from the Vosges towards 1830, the Massif Central towards 1875 and the Jura towards 1885. It persists in the Alps until in 1940. The only population which was maintained is that of the Pyrenees with a minimum in the years 1950. Since it returned naturally in the Alps and the Jura (following operations of reintroductions carried out in Switzerland) and was reintroduced in the Vosges.
