Lynn Conway

Lynn Conway (born in 1938) is a data processing specialist and American inventeure .

Its greater success is probably the revolution as regards design VLSI than it initiated with Carver Mead - a world incubator of the industry of the Conception Automated of Electronic Circuits. She worked at IBM in the Années 1960 and is regarded as auteure of the generalized management of the dynamic instructions, a projection-key used in the disordered Exécution of instructions, used by all the modern processors to improve the performances, by using the cycles not used, thus reducing the time of inactivity.

IBM returned Conway in 1968 after it had revealed to them that it was Transsexuelle, and envisaged to make its transition towards the female kind. Harry Benjamin treated it. It had before, in the years 1950, tempted to carry out its transition, which had failed because of the medical climate of the time.

When she lived as a man, Conway was married with a woman and had two children. After having lost its employment at IBM and the access to his/her children, it started again his career, as a woman, since the beginning, working like simple programmer. She joined the Xerox PARK in 1973, where she worked on the design VLSI. With Carver Mead, it is the Co-auteure of Introduction to VLSI Systems (Presentation of Systems VLSI), a fundamental work which was going soon to become an academic reference.

In the Years 1980, Conway worked for the DARPA about the strategic Informatique, and then became professeure with the Université of Michigan in 1985; in 1989, she was elected with the American National Académie of Engineering for her successes in design VLSI.

After being part in retirement of professorship in December 1998, it decided to reveal again that it was Transsexuelle in 1999 after it had realized that the history of its work at IBM could be proposed by research shortly after. For this time, it has become a spokesperson major for the rights of the people transsexuals.

In 2002, Conway married Charlie, with which it lived since 1988; in 2006, they reside at Ann Arbor (Michigan), in the United States.
