Lyman Spitzer

Lyman Spitzer, Jr. (June 26th 1914 - March 31st 1997) was a American astrophysicist , author of approximately 200 scientific Article S (according to ADS/CDS (NASA)), including 155 in first author.
According to its Biography, it would be the first to have expressed the idea to send a Télescope in terrestrial Orbite. It took an active part in the realization of the Projet of the Space telescope Hubble. He was prize winner of the Franklin Médaille in 1980 for his research tasks on the mechanisms of formation of stars.
Its name was given to the Space telescope Spitzer (SIRTF) once it was put into orbit.
