Nomenclature and systematic

Subspecies

Since the recent changes applied to the taxonomy of Mertensiella luschani in Lyciasalamandra luschani (Veith and Steinfartz 2004), one distinguishes three subspecies:

• Lyciasalamandra luschani luschani (comb. Nov. of Molge luschani Steindachner, 1891),
• Lyciasalamandra luschani finikensis (comb. Nov. of Mertensiella luschani finikensis Basoglu & Atatür, 1975),
• Lyciasalamandra luschani basoglui (comb. Nov. of Mertensiella luschani basoglui Baran & Atatür, 1980).

Distribution

Lyciasalamandra luschani is primarily in Turkey, along approximately 350 km of coast in the south-west of the country, like on some Aegean islands (see chart).

External bond

Mertensiella caucasica is one of both species kind Mertensiella . One finds different the subspecies disseminated in some zones disjoined on the Mediterranean edges from the Turkey, like on the Greek islands of Carpathos and Cassos. -->
