Luzius Wildhaber
Luzius Wildhaber (January 18th 1937 with Swiss Basle, -), Swiss lawyer, president of the European Court of the human rights from November 1st, 1998 to January 18th, 2007.
After studies of right to Basle, Paris, Heidelberg, London and Yale, he is law professor with the Université of Freiburg, then of Basle of which he becomes the vice-chancellor.
Then, lawyer at the federal Department of the foreign affairs in Bern, it takes part in the total revision of the Swiss federal Constitution of which it is one of the principal authors.
He was judge in various courts, in particular with the Liechtenstein, then, since 1991, with the European Cour of the human rights of Strasbourg, from which he was president since 1998. Luzius Wildhaber takes its retirement on January 19th, 2007, its successor is the French Jean-Paul Costa. Its successor as judge is Giorgio Malinverni.
February 1st, 2007, it indicates to be poisoned on the Russian ground during a voyage.
