Luz-Ardiden

Luz-Ardiden is a Winter sports resort of the the Pyrenees located on the commune of Luz-Saint-Saver in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées in area the Midday-Pyrenees.

She was imagined in 1966 by the town councilors of five communes: Luz-Saint-Saver, Grust, Sazos, Sassis and Viscos. Work started with the opening of the road since Grust in 1970. The first opening of the station took place on January 16th, 1975 on the site of Béderet with two skis-lift! The sector of Aulian was open the following season with the skis-lift Turon 1 and Pourtère 1 and 2

Located at 12 kilometers of the downtown area, Luz-Ardiden (altitude 1700-2500 m) extends today on a field from 100 hectares and proposes 60 kilometers of marked tracks all levels as well as the most modern equipment (2 disengageable chair-lifts 6 places, 65 snow-blowers, a carpet for 135 meters length beginners).

A fatal accident will come however the endeuiller (6 died, 25 seriously injureds) on March 1st 1987 because of the fall from about fifty nacelles of a chair-lift.
