Luxair (Code AITA: LG ; Code ICAO: LGL ) is the Airline company Grand Duche du Luxembourg.
History
Birth
The Luxembourg Airlines Company was founded in 1948 at the time of the creation of the airport Luxembourg-Findel. It is reorganized in 1961 to make it possible to connect the Grand Duchy to the European capitals: Luxair (Luxembourg Company of Aerial navigation SA) was then born. As of 1962, Luxair begins the exploitation of flights with the adoption of the Luxembourg-Paris line in Fokker F27 Friendship .
Modernization
In 1967, the company has already three Friendship and a Vickers Viscount, which is replaced in 1970 by the first jet of the company, the Caravelle. In parallel, a diversification takes place: Luxair Turns and Cargolux are created.Starting from 1977, Luxair takes a European importance with the purchase of a Boeing 737 -200. Modernization continues, with the progressive replacement of the old apparatuses by machines with turbopropulsion: the Fokker F50 and Embraer EMB-120, and orders it of Boeing 737-400 and 737-500 more modern.
In 1997 and 1998, seven Embraer ERJ 145 Eurojets are ordered; the renewal of the fleet continues with the delivery of three Boeing 737 -700 beginner in 2004. Moreover, two regional planes, of type Embraer ERJ 135 are delivered in March 2005.
Nevertheless, the jump made in 2000, i.e. the purchase of five planes and the recruiting of thirty percent of personnel moreover, contribute to the serious problems that Luxair meets in 2003 and probably still in 2004. To face the cost and at fierce competition, the company survives only thanks to its activities in the field of the handling of freight the airport of Luxembourg.

Passengers transport
Luxair is specialized in the direct flights connecting Luxembourg to the European capitals like Paris, Vienna or Berlin. The marketing policy is thus centered on the speed of the Eurojet and on a Marketing very developed with the Luxembourg.However, because of the rise of the oil price in 2005 and 2006, the company ordered Bomber Q400 in order to replace part of Eurojet on the lines runs mail where the use of the jet is not justified to gain 10 minutes. Luxair Tours is the tour operator of Luxair. Luxair Tours offers fixed prices of holidays towards the mainly Mediterranean countries, but also of the weekends in the European cities. Present with more than 800 travel agencies, Luxair Tours covers the area the Saar - Lorraine - Luxembourg and thus presents for Luxair an important platform of marketing, beside the customers of businesses.
