Luwu

Luwu is the name of a Kabupaten (department) of the province Indonesia of Sulawesi of the South in the island of Célèbes. Since 2004, the original kabupaten was divided into 3 administrative entities: the kabupaten of Luwu, the kabupaten of Eastern Luwu and the city ( Kota ) of Palopo. Its current surface is of 3 098,97 km ². Its chief town is Belopa.

History

The kingdom of Luwu (or Luwuq, or Wareq) is oldest that one knows south of Célèbes. Archaeological and philological work undertaken since years 1980 shows that colonists Bugis of the valley of the Cenrana start to be installed on the coastal strip in the neighborhoods of 1300 after J. - C.
