Lutherstadt Wittenberg
Wittemberg , in German Lutherstadt Wittenberg , is a town of Saxony-Anhalt (Germany located on the Elba. It has a population of approximately 50.000 inhabitants.
Wittemberg is famous for its close links with Martin Luther and the paddle of the Réforme: several of its buildings are associated with the events of this time. Left the monastery Augustine in which Luther remained, initially as a monk and in the posterior life like owner with his wife and family, is preserved, and was adapted outside like museum of Luther. It contains many relics of Luther, and portraits and other paintings by the Cranach S. Augusteum, built in 1564-1583 because of the monastery, is now a theological seminar.
History
Saxonne city which, at the dawn of the 16th century, know an important economic radiation, technical, artistic and especially intellectual thanks to his university. Martin Luther teaches the Théologie there as of 1508, then posts there its 95 theses against indulgences in 1517. Wittenberg then becomes the principal place of formation of the reform.
In spite of theological controversies, the Harmony of Wittemberg is signed there in 1536. It is intended to create a unit between the tendencies Lutherans and the thoughts of the Saxon Théologien S, in particular on the questions of the Cène.
It is as in Wittemberg as is taught for the first time (in Germany) in 1797 the German right.
In 1813, it is defended by the French general Lapoype, who does not capitulate and leaves the house the weapons with the hand.
