Toponymy
The toponym Saint-Christau appears in the forms SEN-Jacme of Bager (1438, notaries of Oloron), Feels-Xristau (about 1443, payment of the Majour Court), Sanct-Cristau and Sainct-Christau (respectively 1538 and 1675, reformation of Béarn), Saint-Cristau (1777, enumeration of Eysus) and Bagès or Saint-Christau (XVIIIe century, intendance of Pau).
History
Paul Raymond note that Lurbe counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.In 1385, Lurbe depended on the Bailliage of Oloron and counted 74 feux.
Saint-Christau is an old commandery depending on the abbey of Holy-Christine (Spain).
Lurbe and Saint-Christau linked themselves in 1955.
