Lur Berri

Lur Berri is an agro-alimentary co-operative group of the south-west of the France.

History

All starts in 1936 when a corn co-operative is born. Consequently and until 1965, the activity will be concentrated on the vegetable productions of the Basque Country.

In 1971, it is the agricultural cooperative Lur Berri which are born from fusion between the cereal co-operative of the Basque Country and that of Low-Navarre created in 1947.
Lur Berri then takes very an other dimension in the Basque Country.

She announces in 2007 to provide seeds GMO of corn to about fifty members (on the several thousands whom she comprises). She will also ensure the storage of harvests GMO.

In reaction to this advertisement, 150 people of the Basque collective anti-GMO (whose some members of the co-operative) at the head office they express thus désaccord.
Some will remain 6 days by occupying the auditorium of the coopérative.
They cause the organization of an extraordinary committee of administration around problems GMO and generated contaminations.
