Lupin III ( ルパン三世 , Rupan Sansei ) is a series of Manga and of Anime created by Kazuhiko Katô under the pseudonym of Monkey Punch (モンキーパンチ) in 1967 in Manga Action Weekly . That started like a parody of the novels of Maurice Leblanc with a Gentleman burglar of the name of Arsène Lupin, but the small son of Arsene is far from being a gentleman.

The name Lupin III presented legal problems, because Monkey Punch did not ask for the permission of use the name of Lupin to the heirs to Maurice Leblanc. Finally an agreement concluded that the name of Lupin could be only used with the Japan. Therefore in France Lupin is called Edgar of Cambriole or Edgar detective burglar (for other countries the name selected is Wolf , or Rupan III which is the Japanese pronunciation of Lupin III ). The name of Lupin finally fell into the public domain in the Années 1990.
