Luo Gan

Luo Gan (罗干) was member of the Standing Committee of the Political office of the Chinese Communist party. It was born with Jinan (province of the Shandong) in 1935. He worked as engineer in German Democratic republic.

Biography

Luo Gan followed studies of engineer to the Université of Sciences and Technologies of Beijing. Luo joined the Chinese Communist party in 1960.

Then, he studied eight years in German Democratic republic with the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg working at the same time in steel-works. After its return in China, Luo continued to work in metallurgical industry and became the person in charge of the party of the province of the Henan in the years 1980.

Luo developed a very strong relation with Li Peng and was regarded as its protected.

Luo was named to advise of state in 1993 (until 2003) and became member of the Politburo in 1998. Person in charge of the safety, it implemented the countryside anti-crime “types extremely”, which led to an increase in executions. It is said responsible, personally of the repression of illegal organizations and protest movements like “Pubugou Dam” with the Sichuan in 2004, during which some 20 demonstrators were killed. It was also the armed wing of repression against the movement of the Falun Gong.

October 21st, 2007, Luo did not appear among the few 200 members of the new Central committee at the conclusion of the 17th Congress of the Chinese Communist party. This exclusion reinforces the capacity of Hu Jintao, Luo being faithful of Li Peng and Jiang Zemin.
