Lungarno

The Lungarno ( Lungarni in the plural in Italian) indicates the quays along the course of the Arno of the cities which it crosses to Pisa and with Florence.

Lungarno Florentin

The quays of Lungarno with Florence border the historical center and are thus the Right Bank of the river opposed to its named left bank Oltrarno, (beyond Arno).

The quays are restructured during the 19th century, often with the detriment of some picturesque old structures, like fish ponds or the roofed passageway of the Lungarno Serristori which went from the Palazzo Serristori to the Ponte Al Grazie.

Each quay is characterized by a palate, a religious building or a public building and often bears the name from there:

the Lungarno Vespucci until the Piazza Goldoni while passing by the Piazza Ognissanti,
the Lungarno Corsini and the Palazzo Corsini,
the Lungarno degli Acciaiuoli ,
the Lungarno of Archibugieri where passes the Corridor of Vasari and which reveals the Uffizi,
the Lungarno Diaz with the neo-classic building of the Chamber of commerce,
the Lungarno delle Grazie , with the Oratoire of Santa Maria delle Grazie,
the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia , dominated by the building of central National library of Florence
the Lungarno Pecori Giraldi ,
the Lungarno del Tempio
the Lungarno Cristorforo Colombo .

The lungarno pisan

The quays of Lungarno of Pisa, border the old palates and are limited by the Spallette (small shoulders), parapets rather high hones some and brick whose function is to contain the risings of Arno.

On these quays are aligned the many ones and important buildings, like the Chiesa de San Sepolcro, the Palazzo Lanfranchi, the Palazzo Gambacorti, the Palazzo Real, the Palazzo went Giornata, the Chiesa di San Paolo has Ripa D' Arno (the Duomo Vecchio ), the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Spina (dismounted and rebuilt to save it risings of Arno) and much of other historical buildings.

During the Second world war, much of these medieval palates were struck by the bombs. Some " blessures" have been still visible, others were repaired recently, others for 50 years, with more or less of happiness.
