Hydrology

Lunain is a small river very little abundant. Its flow was observed during one 39 years period (1969-2007), with Épisy, locality of the Département of Seine-et-Marne located at the level of its confluence with the Loing. The catchment area of the river is there of 252  km ² (either the totality of this one).

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Épisy is of 0,723  m ³ a second.

Lunain presents seasonal fluctuations of flow little marked, with high waters of winter carrying the average monthly flow on a level located between 0,903 and 1,080  m ³ a second, from January to April included (with an in February maximum, then March), and low waters of summer, being held June at October, with a fall of the monthly medium flow until 0,443  m ³ in August, which remains solid. From October at January, one attends a progressive rise of the flow. But these monthly averages are only averages and hide more marked fluctuations over moreover short periods, and according to the years.

With the low water level, the VCN3 can fall until 0,12  m ³, which is still far from being severe. Let us recall that the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.

As for the risings, they are not very important. Thus the recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 12,1  m ³ a second on December 31st, 2001, while the value maximum day laborer was of 8,85  m ³ a second the same day. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth 3,2 and 5,2  respectively; m ³ the QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 6,4  m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 7,7  m ³ and the QIX 50 of 9,3  m ³ (see note). From where it arises that the rising of December 2001, whose mention was made, was much more than cinquantennale, and thus completely exceptional.

Lunain is fed by a very low volume of precipitations, like most of the time in the basin of Loing. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of only 90 millimetres annually, which is not even one the third of the overall average of France, and is much lower even than the average of the basin of the Loing (148 millimetres). The specific Débit (or Qsp) reaches only the figure of 2,9 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin, one of low of the country.
