Luminous Alfe

The luminous Alfes or Alfes lights ( ljósálfar in old man-norrois) are a species of beings of the Scandinavian Mythologie. It is, according to Snorri Sturluson, about a category of Alfes, the others being the Alfes dark blacks and the Alfes.

Luminous Alfes live with Álfheim. They also live Gimlé, with the third sky ( Gylfaginning , 17).

They are opposed to the dark Alfes: “all and sundry are of extremely dissimilar appearance, but they still much more actually differ”. The ones are “more beautiful than the sun”, the others “blacker than pitch” ( Gylfaginning , 17).

The distinction between luminous Alfes and Alfes dark meets only at Snorri and it is probable (it is the opinion expressed initially by Jacob Grimm) that it is the transposition of Christian dualism angels/demons.

However, it is possible that it returns to two aspects of the worship of the Alfes: worship of fruitfulness for luminous Alfes, worship of died for the dark Alfes.
