Lujan
Luján is a provincial town of Buenos Aires in Argentine. The city is the chief town of the homonymous partido .
Situation
It is localized with 68 kilometers in the North-West of the town of Buenos Aires. Its geographical coordinates are (). Luján is regarded as being the end of the Western axis of large the Buenos Aires belonging to its third crown. Its urban center is on banks of río Luján.
The city was founded in 1755 and counts a population of 80.000 inhabitants.
Religion
Luján is mainly known for its large neo-gothic basilica, built in honor of the Virgin of Luján, the holy-owner of Argentina. Each year, approximately six million people follows a pilgrimage to the basilica, some coming to foot from Buenos Aires. The city is known like the capital of the faith and is one of the most visited places of South America.
The church was built by the French architect Ulderico Courtois starting from 1889 and complete in 1937. Its turns dominate the city to 106 m and have bronze and copper roofs. The most bell-tower is supplemented by a small statue of the 38 height cm Virgin.
The Archevêché of Mercedes is called since 1993 archbishop's palace of " Mercedes-Luján".
