Luigi Rossi
Luigi Rossi , born in Torremaggiore (Foggia) towards 1598 and deceased in Rome on February 19th 1653 is a Compositeur and professor of Italian song .
Originating in the Southern Italy, he studies with Naples. He is type-setter, singer and lutist with the service of the Médicis to Florence then of the cardinal Antonio Barberini with Rome.
He composes in 1632 the cantata Lamento beyond Regina di Svetia on death of the king Gustave II Adolphe of Sweden during the battles of Lützen. This cantata acquires to him a great notoriety in all Europe.
In 1641 it enters, in Rome, with the service of the pope Urbain VIII. In this same city it makes represent its first opera It palazzo of Telamon incantato whose booklet is of the Rospigliosi cardinal, future pope Clément IX. In 1646, it is invited to the Court of king de France. In its desire to sensitize French people, the Cardinal Mazarin orders to him the first Italian opera written expressly for a Parisian production. Orfeo , the second opera of Luigi Rossi, is played Paris on March 2nd, 1647, with the participation of the Castrat S Atto Melani in the role titrates and Pasqualini in that of Aristé. This made known the Italian opera in France.
