Luigi Carnera

Luigi Carnera (April 14th 1875 - July 30th 1962) was a Italian Astronome.

At the beginning of career, he worked as assistant of max Wolf with Heidelberg in Germany and discovered several Astéroïde S. He worked in Germany, Italy and Argentine before turning over definitively to Italy in 1908.

He was director of the Observatoire of Trieste starting from 1919; Trieste had just been annexed to the Italy following the First World War. He became then director of the Observatoire Capodimonte with Naples starting from 1932 until his retirement in 1950. In 1943 during the Second world war, the observatory was temporarily occupied by the American and British troops to install a radar tracking station there.
