Biography

At the time of the declaration of the Italian war in May 1915 against the Austria-Hungary, it becomes ordering troops based on the italo-Austrian border. Whereas it adopts a defensive attitude in the Trentin O, it launches offensives along the river Isonzo with little success and much losses. Its principal successes were the stop of the Austrian offensive in Trentino, the capture of Gorizia and the victory of Bainsizza.

The entry in war of the Germany at the sides of Austria-Hungary against Italy in 1917 changed the power struggles, and led to the defeat of Caporetto. It had to resign. It belonged to the Italian delegation with Versailles, but an official investigation into the defeat of Caporetto, which blamed it, obliged it to turn over to Italy.
