Lug Editions

Lug was a Lyons publisher specialized in the Cartoon which was created in 1950 by Marcel Navarro and Auguste Vistel and was repurchased in 1989 by the Scandinavian editor Semic.

Its name came from Lugdunum , the Gallo-Roman name of the town of Lyon (but Lug is also the name of the Gallic god of the trade). Its seat was established with 10, rue Bellecordière in Lyon, in the same building as two other publishers: Adventures and voyages and Four cardinal points. After six years it was moved with 6, rue Emile Zola where it remained until the end in 1989.

This label was particularly made known in the field of the popular cartoon by the publication of many “small sizes” such as: Blek, Kiwi, Mustang, Nevada, Ombrax, Rodeo (with Tex Willer), Yuma, Zembla . On the whole one deducts nearly seventy-five titles.

As from the year 1969, it also specializes in the account of Super-héros and makes known in France the characters of the Marvel Comics with titles such as Fantask, Marvel, Strange, Titans, Nova, Spidey or Spécial Strange.

The French adaptations presented a single characteristic, superb painted covers generally, sometimes drawn with the Indian ink, by Jean Frisano
