Ludwig von 88

Ludwig von 88 is a group of Punk and French Rock with resolutely festive tendency, which was very active on the scene alternative Rock of the Années 1980 and 1990. Their music is marked by punk-destroy derision.

Although occurring more in concert, the group seems still agitated of some sudden starts of time to other.

History of the group

After beginnings with the neighborhoods of 1983, their first true disc leaves in 1986: Houlala . They are there their first cries vis-a-vis a company which they judge in rout. They are made known while composing of many songs to the second degree on high-speed motorboats: Louison Bobet, Nicolae Ceauşescu, Maria Fixed, Jacques Chirac, Jodie Foster, etc Handling the irony and denouncing them through and the stereotypes of the company, the group will have marked the French rock'n'roll.

The group approaches sometimes more serious topics such as the war ( Libannais stiff , Hiroshima ), drug ( the magic Horse-gear , Kaliman ) or misery ( LSD for Ethiopia , In the Ghettos ) but always with detachment and irony.

Their musical configuration that of many groups of the time, is developed by Métal Urbain and in particular taken again by black Bérurier: guitar, box at rate/rhythm, song and raïa behind.

The group knew formations various and varied but stabilizes itself at the end of the years 1980 with the Chant Karim Berrouka, the Electric guitar Nobru (Bruno Garcia), with the low Laurent then Charlu and finally, with the “machines”, Jean-Semi. They are then known for their concerts which can last several hours, their direction of humor and their costumes arranged starting from shirts of cyclists, ridiculous bonnets, equipment of Mexican diving or ponchos.

If the group never officially separated, it does not remain about it less in pause prolonged since January 1999. Nobru (Bruno Garcia of its true name), the guitarist, officiates from now on in Sergent Garcia and Jean-Semi alias Junior Cony launched out in the Dub. One also finds it behind the machines of black Bérurier.

Significance of the name

Their name, in spite of the German consonance and the use of the number 88, does not have strictly any relationship with Adolf Hitler (the letter H being the eighth of the alphabet, number 88 is often used by movements néonazis to symbolize the Heil Hitler , HH, 88). The 88 has several directions. According to an interview of Karim, it would be a pastiche of the 77, fetish number of the punk movement, indicating the year 1977 as from which the punk one started to be spread. According to another interview, of Nobru this time, it would refer to the number of constellations listed in the terrestrial sky, inter alia. It does not have, however, anything to see with the department of the the Vosges, the group being originating in Paris and its banlieue.

1988 are also the ironically estimated year of their success.

The " Ludwig Von" is obviously a reference (frequent in the punk movement) to the film worship Clockwork orange, and to the fanaticism of Alex for Ludwig von Beethoveen
