Ludovic Verpey

Ludovic Verpey ( Ludovic Bagman in original version) is a character of the saga Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling. It makes of it mention for the first time in the volume 4. In spite of its big role in this volume, it does not appear in the film.

Ludovic Verpey , called more usually Ludo Verpey is the former chief of the department of the Plays and magic Sports. He is also former professional player of Quidditch.

He was very popular whereas he was beater for the Frelons de Wimbourne ( Wimbourne Wasps in VO) and for the English national selection, at the end of the years 1970 and beginning of the year 80.

Whereas it was at the top of its career, It was shown to have communicated information with Augustus Rookwood, a Mangemort: he recognized the facts, while affirming that he then thought of helping to fight against Voldemort and hoped that Rookwood could help it to enter to the ministry for the Magic after its career. He was discharged, but Barty Croupton Sr. guard for him a tough hatred.

After its career of Quidditch, it joined the department of the Plays and Sports magic, of which he became the chief. It is for this reason that he comments on the World cup of Quidditch and takes part in the jury and the organization of the Tournoi of the Three Wizards.

Ludo Verpey is a become inveterate punter, always sifted debts. Among its creditors are Fred and George Weasley, who bet with him that Ireland would gain the final of the world cup although Viktor Krum catches the sharp one of gold, which actually occurred; but also the goblins, from which it borrowed important money sums. To refund its debts, he had bet with the goblins that Harry Potter would gain the tournament: but the latter refuse to cancel its debts, pretexting that Harry Potter did not gain since it is ex-æquo with Cédric Diggory. It is constrained to flee and leave thus the post of head of department.

Ludo Verpey is described like somebody of very sympathetic nerve and ready to help but with the limited intelligence. Arthur Weasley, which is his/her friend, presents it like a head of extremely enthusiastic but not very rigorous department with the safety regulations. Percy Weasley, him, hardly appreciates it, on the one hand because of hatred that its owner Mr. Croupton dedicates to him, on the other hand because it estimates that Ludo Verpey is not effective enough. Alastor Maugrey said, at the time of the lawsuit of Verpey, which it “was never very malignant”.

Physically, it is large, strong and fair with the blue eyes with a rather round face. At the time of the world cup, its nose is door the trace of a preceding fracture, but not at the time of its lawsuit. It is described as a “schoolboy who grew too much”.
