History

Ludon-Medoc has its richness with the culture of the Blé and Vigne and with the breeding (one will note the presence of several racing stables at the beginning of the XXe century). If the farming population decreases with the profit of the employees and the workmen, the territory of common preserve nevertheless a character Agricole dominating. With the XXe century, Ludon-Medoc makes considerable great strides: its population passing of 1089 inhabitants in 1954 to 3387 in 1999.

Ludon-Medoc existed as of the XIe century since one finds trace of a donation made in the Paroisse of Ludon in 1122. The edges of the Garonne, formerly much closer, were marked out castles which played the part of turn of guets. By giving each other alarm, they prevented Bordeaux of any danger by the Fleuve. If one does not have traces older than XIe century, two good reasons make it possible to think of a former presence. The presence of Lébade: Roman Way which connected Burdigala to Noviomagus. Ausone, Latin Poète of IVe evokes the tribe of the Medulli which are the ancestors éponymes of the area. Perhaps the excavations Archéologique S undertaken soon on old the Motte of Cantemerle will bring a new lighting.

Paul Duchesne, was interested in the history of his commune and consigned the result of his research in one entitled book: Chronicles of Ludon in Medoc.
