813 is a novel of Maurice Leblanc putting in scene the adventures of Arsène Lupin, gentleman-burglar.
Contrary to preceding volumes of the stories of Arsene Lupin which were appeared in serial in I know all , it is published in the daily newspaper the Newspaper , one of most important of the time, March to May 1910.
Volume left as of June 1910 to the Lafitte editions. It is a thick volume of 500 pages. It will be republished in 1917 in two volumes entitled 813 and the three crimes of Arsene Lupin . The text is modified to accentuate the anti-Germanic aspect, First World War in progress obliges. One will find then the first volume under the title the double life of Arsene Lupin .
The tone of this novel is rather different from the three first, one deals with Arsene complex Lupin, worrying, whose objective is neither more nor less than to dominate Europe. It is in fight with a frightening, invisible and imperceptible enemy, LM.
Adaptation
813 was very accurately adapted for television in 1980 under the title Arsène Lupin plays and loses .
It is in reference to this novel that the association of the friends of the police literature was called 813 the more so as it is limited under the articles to 813 members.
