Ludger Duvernay
Ludger Duvernay (January 22nd 1799 - November 28th 1852), born with Verchères with the Quebec, is a printer and editor of newspapers Canadian.
Biography
He was a printer of profession and published number of newspapers including the Gazette of the Three-Rivers , Argus. Newspaper electoric and also Minerve , which supported the patriotic Parti and Louis-Joseph Papineau before the rebellion. It was stopped by the authorities on four different occasions.
In 1834 it helped to found and carry out the Association Saint-Jean-Baptist (today, the Société Saint-Jean-Baptist of Montreal). It was for some time member of the Chambre from assembly of Low-Canada in 1837.
He flees with Burlington, Vermont when started the Rébellion of the Patriots, but returned to Montreal in 1842 and took again the publication of Minerve until his death, supporting Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine against Papineau.
Ludger Duvernay is buried with the Cimetière Our-Lady-of-Snows in Montreal, Quebec.
The Prix Ludger-Duvernay was named in its honor.
