Lucterios
Lucterios (also known under the version Latin ized Lucterius ) is the last Gallic chief, the chief of the Cadurques, (i.e. of the inhabitants of the area of Cahors), to resist the invader and to the Roman colonizer with the head of his troops, Jules César.
The Cadurques ( Cadurci ) were one of the Gallic Peuples, It is them which gave their name to the Quercy and at the town of Cahors (Divona cadurcorum). In its work " Commentarii of bello gallico" , " Comments of the war of Gaules" , Jules César (and his Hirtius historiographer) tells the seat of the Oppidum of Uxellodunum, fortified town belonging to Cadurques, which had also joined of overcome of Alesia whose catch marked the end of the Guerre of Gaules in 51 av. J. - C., and whose precise geographical position in Puy d' Issolud (St Denis Martel and Vayrac BATCH) was proven by the last excavations of archeologist JP Girault and was officialized on April 26th, 2001 in Toulouse by the ministry for the culture. This tribe of Cadurques which resisted to the last breath was very close to the Arvernes (Auvergne), their chief Lucterius (Lucterios) was faithful combined Vercingétorix in its fight against Jules César. One year after the rendering of Vercingétorix to Alésia, Lucterius and Drappès Sénon (of Direction) took refuge indeed in the Oppidum of Uxellodunum to continue the fight there. Vainly. Overcome, Lucterius sought refuge in the chief Arverne Epasnactos, rejoined with the Roman empire, which delivered it to César.
Anecdote
- This stubborn chief - the Gallic last resisting the Roman invader inspired at the 20th century the characters Astérix and Abraracourcix of the series of cartoon Astérix the Gallic of Goscinny and Uderzo.
- A legend of the Dordogne says that the skin of Luctérios is in the area, not far from Gardonne.
