History
Lucs-on-Boulogne is famous for the memory which it maintains the massacre of its population, allotted with the infernal Colonnes during the Guerre of the Vendée. According to the tradition, on February 28th, 1794, a certain number of people (500 according to some) were burned alives in the church. More recently, of work resulted undervaluing this figure, and in considering that it lists in fact the whole of died of the commune of 1789 to 1794, without calling into question the massacre made by the infernal columns.

One can visit the Memorial of the Vendée which testifies to this event. With the occcasion of its inauguration, Alexandre Soljénitsyne made a speech remained famous, where it made a parallel between the spirit which animated the politicians applying the Terreur and the Soviet Totalitarisme .
