Lucius Verus

Lucius Verus (Latin: IMPERATOR•CAESAR•LVCIVS•AVRELIVS•VERVS•AVGVSTVS•ARMENIACVS•ARMENIACVS•PARTHICVS•MAXIMVS•MEDICVS) (December 15th 130 - January 169) is Roman Emperor of 161 with 169 jointly with Marc-Aurèle although this one has the reality of the capacity. Born with Rome the December 15th 130 he is the son of Aelius Verus that Hadrian had adopted in 136 and who had died before his mentor. His/her father, Aelius, were of fragile health and were known to carry out a frivolous life. It is adopted by Antonin the Piles at the same time as Marc-Aurèle, of which he becomes later the son-in-law. Not deprived of qualities, he undertakes in 162 a campaign against the Parthes and seizes Ctésiphon in 163. But more interested by a life of lust and vice, it leaves the reality of military operations to its legates Statius Priscus and especially Avidius Cassius which seizes Séleucie of the Tiger and destroyed the city.

Lucius Verus while returning in Aquilée dies of apoplexy in January 169 with Altinum (today Quarto of Altino) in Venezia, prematurely used by its excesses.
