Lucien Levy-Dhurmer
Lucien Levy-Dhurmer , born in Algiers in 1865 and died in Vésinet in 1953. Autodidact mainly his training will be made with manufacture ceramics of Clement Massier of which he becomes the director, taking as a starting point there the artists hispano-Moorishes to create decorations with noticed metal reflections. He practices oil and the pastel. At the time of a stay in Italy he discovers his affinities with the Rebirth and in 1894 appears for the first time in public with the Theater of application of Bodinière for the exposure of idealistic artists organized by the review Art and the life and in 1896 choosing the name of Levy-Dhurmer he exposes more officially to the Gallery Georges Petit. Its art of the pastel reached of the tops of technical virtuosity and subtlety of expression Friend of Pierre Parcelled out, Georges Rodenbach, Camille Mauclair, it undertakes many voyages of which it brings back idealized scenes and landscapes. It exposes regularly and is the subject of several personal exposures. In 1952 a retrospective is organized with the Museum of Decorative Arts of Paris. After 1900 it tries out one modelled diffuse and often monochromic that it will keep until its death late in the century and whereas symbolism was forgotten for a long time.
