Lucien Jonas
Lucien Jonas (Anzin, April 8th 1880 -, September 20th 1947 - PARIS 16) is a painter French.
Born in a family from industrialists of the North of France, Lucien Hector JONAS Painter of History and kind, Graduate-be-letters in June 1898, continues his studies with Valencians with Joseph Fortuné Seraph LAYRAUD, then in Paris 12 Rue du Dragon then settles 3 Rue Lecourbe.
Member of the Company of the French Artists since 1901.
Gold and money medal in 1905 (Out of competition) with purse of voyage in 1907. National price with the Living room of 1911. Second Grand Prix of Rome, Member of the Jury of engraving. Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1929. The war inspired to him by the appreciated compositions which decorate various public edifices. It often described the life of the minors and the Black Country.
He is success with mural decorations in the style Art déco and carries out the decoration of many buildings with Paris (house of the Exchanges) as with Valencian (Town hall, Chamber of commerce).
Most of its Valenciennes-native works was destroyed by the bombardments which struck the city in 1945. However, the son of the artist offered in the years 2000 to the museum of Valencians a hundred of drafts for these mural decorations or ceiling.

One of its tables, representing a knelt minor carrying a bar and a lamp, was selected to illustrate the stamp commemorative entitled “Homage to the minors - Courrières 1906-2006” for the centenary of the mining Catastrophe, said of Courrières.
