Lucien Janssoone

Born the March 23rd 1898 with Ghyvelde. Deceased the August 23rd 1944 with Diez-on-Lahn in Germany.

" Those which live, it is those which fight. Which victory its life ". These words registered on the stele of Lucien Janssoone at the elementary school of the street Emile-Zola of Caudry summarize well what was the existence of this man sympathetic nerve, sharp and courageous.

Born in Ghyvelde, of a father Shoe-maker and a mother ironer, Lucien Janssoone made brilliant studies. He was accepted with the elementary Brevet and was admitted, in 1915, at the Teacher training school of Douai. Teacher with Rosendaël with the beginning of the year 1920, it took to the direction of the courses complementary to boys to Caudry as from October 1933.

Member of many local companies, organizer of school and continuation works, L. Janssoone chooses to engage in the resistance, as of the first days of the occupation.

Within the OCM (civil Organization and soldier), L. Janssoone ensured, as of 1942, lodging and the convoying of the killed allied aviators, collected and conveyed information of a military nature, coordinated parachutings of weapons for the network " Castille" , organized village fairs with the profit of the prisoners of war and assisted from refractories to the service from obligatory work with the assistance from Andre Maillez, Victor Cordonnier, Marcel Drombry, Leonce Bajart, Auguste Lemaire…

Decree the December 14th 1943, L. Janssoone was condemned to died the May 12th 1944. Imprisoned with the citadel of Diez-on-Lahn (Germany), L. Janssoone was shot the August 23rd 1944.

With the Release, the municipal council of Caudry decided débaptiser the school Jules-Ferry and to call it Lucien-Janssoone school.
