Lucanus
The kind Lucanus Linné gives its name to the family of the Lucanidae. It includes in particular in Europe the Lucanus cervus whose male can reach 85 Misters Celui-ci is characterized by a strong sexual dimorphism which distinguishes the impressive male from the female by its very large mandibles whose form points out that of the wood of stag, from where its name of species, and its vernacular name of “kite”.
The principal kinds of Lucanidés in France are the Lucanus, the Dorcus, the Sinodendron and the Platycerus.
