Luca Giordano
Luca Giordano (Naples, 1632 - Naples, January 12th, 1705) is a painter Italian Baroque that his/her father had affublé nickname of Luca Fà-presto (Luca works quickly).
Biography
His father Antonio, itself artist, taught the first rudiments of the trade to him and as of age the eight years, Luca managed to paint a Chérubin on one of the drawings of his/her father, an exploit which was worth with the child to be placed in training by the viceroy of Naples near Jose de Ribera.Later, with Rome, he discovers the masterpieces of Michel-Angel, of Raphaël, the Carracci and of the Caravage, while endeavouring to draw them, then, with Parma works of the Corrège and of Véronèse and he will finish by a stay in Venice between 1653 and 1667.
After having visited and try outhaving tried out the majority of the great artistic centers of Italy, Giordano forged a personal style, combining to a certain extent the decorative pump of Paul Véronèse with the great compositions of Pietro da Cortona.
About 1687, Charles II of Spain invited it to Madrid, where there will remain at least the decade 1692-1702 for the frescos with the monastery of Escorial, with the royal palace of Madrid and Tolède which preserve part of its works. Giordano was popular at the Spanish court and the king conceded to him the title of “ caballero ”.
Gone back to Naples about 1702, it continued to work with the same ceaseless creative fury. The increasingly more commissions led it to make use of a workshop of production, in which assistances and collaborators developed “in the great” projects and the outlines provided by the Master, the works started with this one, and on which, in much supplemented of case, Giordano was limited to finish, of a blow of brush, the work carried out by its pupils.
