Luc Vinet

Luc Vinet (1953 -) is a Québécois physicist and teacher. He is the vice-chancellor of the Université of Montreal.

Native of Montreal, it obtains a doctorate in Theoretical physics at the University of Montreal and a doctorate of third cycle to the Université Pierre and Marie Curie. Vinet published nine books and several hundreds of scientific articles.

In 1993, he becomes the director of the Research center mathematics (CRM) of the university. It rejoins all the research centres montréalais and joins together them under only one banner: the Network of calculation and mathematical modeling (RCM2).

Vinet created and chaired the Beautiful University laboratory and it founded the Québécois network of calculation of high efficiency. He was the reader of several Québécois researchers, of which the physicist Stephan Durand.

Of 1999 with 2005, it is the executive vice-main thing of the Université McGill. When it tries to become the vice-chancellor of UdeM, it starts a crisis within the university, because the local trade union wished to impose its own candidate.

This event is largely reported in the Québécois written press. It received the support of the business man André Caillé with the board of directors against the ingénieure Suzanne Fortier. In 2005, it replaces the vice-chancellor Robert Lacroix.

He believes in inter-University collaboration and off likes the operation of the Massachusetts Institute Technology and of the Université Harvard, where he carried out his scientific research.
