Luc Montagnier

Luc Montagnier (born on August 1st, 1932) is a Virologue French of international dimension. He was professor with the Institut Pasteur and research director of the National center of the scientific research. He is famous in the whole world to have been the director of the laboratory which discovered in 1983 HIV, the Virus responsible for the AIDS.

This virus was discovered by the Professor Jean-Claude Chermann, director of the research unit on the retroviruses of the Inserm. With his/her Italian colleague Vittorio Colizzi, Mr. Montagnier takes part in several conferences, in particular in Africa, to fight against the propagation of HIV.

Professor Montagnier currently directs the department “AIDS and retrovirus” of the Institut Pasteur to Paris.
