Luís de Zúñiga there Requesens

Luís de Zúñiga Requesens (Barcelona, August 25th 1528 - Brussels, March 5th 1576) was a governor of the Spanish Netherlands there.

He was the guide of Don Juan of Austria in several wars and until Lépante (1568-71).

Having gained its confidence, Philippe II named it Vice-roi Milan, a station usually reserved for the nobility, whereas Requesens, was that simple gentleman, although it was high with the row of Large-commander of Castille. It controlled with moderation at this station, although it violently ran up against the holy archbishop Charles Borromée.

In 1573, it replaced the pile cluster in the government of the Netherlands to alleviate the situation there. It there tested a moderated policy, but ran up had to face insurmountable difficulties. After some alternatives of success and reverse in his fight against Louis de Nassau, brother of Guillaume Ier of Orange-Nassau, it died of disease to the seat of Zierikzee, in 1576.
