Lowlands

The Lowlands ( lowlands ), although not constituting an official geographical area of the country, are the parts of the Scotland which do not belong to the Highlands (or Gàidhealtachd). They thus extend to the south and the east from a line (the Fault line of Highlands) between Stonehaven and Helensburgh (on the Firth off Clyde). However, certain parts of Lowlands, as the Southern Uplands are not physically low ( low ), whereas certain territories of Highlands, as Islay are located at low altitude.
