Low Insertion Forces
The sockets Low-insertion-force (LIF) are literally sockets of Integrated circuit (Ci) especially conceived so that the force of insertion is weak. For the integrated circuits which are frequently changed, plus the number of pins increases (e.g PGA or SPGA vs DIP), plus the weak force of insertion becomes an almost essential characteristic.
With an ordinary socket Ci, the integrated circuit is simply inserted in the socket, and is extracted by making lever during the withdrawal. The majority of the sockets of modern mother charts are now zero insertion forces (ZIF) rather than LIF.
