Low-Po (department)
The Low-Po (in Italian Basso Po ) was old a department of the République cispadane, République cisalpine, Italian République, then Royaume of Italy of 1797 to 1815. It was named according to the river Po, and had for Chef-lieu Ferrare.
History
The department was created the January 5th 1797 during the creation of the republic cispadane under the name of department “of Ferrare”, then “of Po”.
During fusion with the republic cisalpine, the department was famous “Low-Po”, because it had already a department cisalpin Po (famous for its part High-Po).
The June 8th 1805, Low-Po loses some communes with the profit of the Mincio. In December 1807, it yields some communes to the department of the Adriatique.
This department is recreated éphèrement between April and May 1815 at the time of the reconquest of the southernmost and central areas of the kingdom of Italy by Joachim Murat.
