Low-California-of-South
The Low-California-of-South is a State located at the North-West of the Mexico. Surrounded by the State of the Low-California (from which to it parallel 28°N separates), of the Pacific Ocean and the Golfe of California, it occupies a surface of 73.677 km ².

The State is divided into only 5 municipalities, the capital is La Paz. The municipalities are:- Comondú : Ciudad Constitución

- Los Cabos : San Jose del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas
- Mulegé: Santa Rosalía
It includes also some islands: LED Carmen, Cerralvo, Coronados, Espiritu Santo, Natividad, Magdalena, Monserrat, Partida, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose San Marcos, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz, Santa Margarita,
The State counted approximately 463.500 inhabitants in 2003.
Narciso Agúndez Montaño is the governor of the State since April 5th, 2005.
History
One finds many cave paintings in the caves, which attests a very old human presence and still largely unknown.

Years 1690 and 1700: colonization of California by the Spaniards.
- 1804 : division of California in two zones: Alta California (High California) and Baja California (Low California). The northern part was entrusted to the southern Franciscains and part with the Dominicains.
- 1850 : high California is annexed by the the United States and is famous simply California. Low-California east in its turn divided into Territory-of-North of Low-California and Territory-of-South of Low-California .
- 1952 : the Territory-of-North becomes the 29e State of Mexico ( Low-California ).
- 1974 : the Territory-of-South becomes the 31e State of Mexico ( Low-California-of-South ).
- 1975 : creation of the first university in Low-Califronie-of-South.
Etymology
The name California comes from a novel of Garci Ordóñez de Montalvo which described an inhabited island that by women and rich in pearls and gold. California is derived from two words Latin S calida fornax (hot furnace) which referred to the high temperature which was to reign there. The conquistador, Hernán the Cortes gave this term already mentioned in the novel to an area where it was reported that there were many gold and pearls.
