Louisiana Superdome
The Louisiana Superdome (also called " The Dome " , " Superdome " and " New Orleans Superdome ") is a Stade covered located in the Central business district of La Nouvelle-Orléans (Louisiana, E. - U.). Its tenants are the New Orleans Saints (NFL) and the Tulane Green Wave (NCAA).
Since 1975, it organizes each year the Sugar Bowl which accommodated more than 79.000 spectators. The capacity of the stage is of 69.703 places for the matches NFL of regular season and 72.003 for the playoffs NFL (Super Bowl). It offers also 63 525 for the Baseball and approximately 75.000 for the Concert S. the stage also organizes matches of university Basket-ball of the Southeastern Conference or it can accommodate 26.900 spectators and sometimes the Final Furnace basketball NCAA with 55 675 places. The Superdome has 137 continuations of luxury and 14.077 seats of club.
History
In the middle of the years 1960, the business man Dave Dixon considered a covered stage with dome which could bring a team of American football NFL in the city. In 1966, its vision became a reality after many discussions and of plannings, the legislature of the Louisiana gave its agreement, which made it possible at the stage to be built. After having concluded an agreement to build a stage, NFL allotted to the sector a team, the New Orleans Saints. Construction began the August 11th 1971, and was finished the August 3rd 1975. It cost 134 million dollars and it is an imposing structure located on 210 000 m ² of ground. The stage with dome was called the Louisiana Superdome because of its massive size.The first match of the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome was the September 28th 1975. In 2005, Superdome was damaged by the Ouragan Katrina. The rebuilding will cost $185,4 million USD. It is reopened the September 25th 2006 for the match opposing the New Orleans Saints to Atlanta Falcons, the Saints were essential 23 to 3. For some, this event is the symbol of the rebirth of the city. The financing of renovation works of the stage was ensured by FEMA (115 million $US), by Louisiana Stadium & Expedition District (41 million $US), by NFL (15 million $US) and the State of the Louisiana (13 million $US).
Technical data
The Louisiana Superdome is a massive structure resting on 210.436 square meters of ground, the dome has an interior space of 3.500.000 cubic meters. The roof makes 77 meters height and its diameter is of 207 meters, it is one of the greatest structure with dome in the world. The stage was conceived by the local architectural firm, Curtis and Davis and the contractor was Huber, Hunt & Nichols.
