Louisiades
The Louisiades are an archipelago of the Pacific Ocean located at the east of the New Guinea-News Guinea, between the Mer of Solomon to north and the Mer of Coral in the south.
The archipelago was probably observed by the Spanish navigator Luis Váez de Torres in 1606 but it is Louis Antoine de Bougainville which named them in 1768 in the honor of Louis XV, the king of France.
In 1942, the Bataille of the Coral sea was held not far from these islands.
