Louis de Villiers of Isle-Adam
Louis de Villiers of Isle-Adam (towards 1450 - 1521) was Vidame of Gerberoy, Pair of France and count-bishop of Beauvais under the reigns of Charles VIII, Louis XII and François Ier.
Rise
Wire of the lord of Isle-Adam Jacques de Villiers of Isle-Adam (death in 1471), Provost of Paris, and Jeanne de Nesle Louis de Villiers is, as a junior, directed in the ecclesiastical career. Whereas his/her older brother Antoine de Villiers takes again the family seigniory, he is elected bishop of Beauvais to replace Jean de Bar. This election, nonconsensual, is definitively confirmed by a legal decision in 1497. It makes of him a par of France, évêché of Beauvais opening right to ecclesiastical peerage.
the large builder
Invited the good one to spare and the large builder , Louis de Villiers restores the episcopal palate of Beauvais in a style mixing with the blazing Gothic elements and Description rebirth of the work undertaken on the site of the general advice. The building shelters today the departmental museum of Oise. A bell of the building going back to 1506 carries always today its Armoiries.
The year 1500, the count-bishop launches the continuation of the construction of the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre of Beauvais whose only chorus was completed. Work of construction of the Transept is entrusted to the architect experienced Martin Chambiges. Louis de Villiers also orders the construction and the restoration of many religious buildings of sound Diocèse. Thus, he is the founder of the Saint-Martin church of Isle-Adam in his grounds of origin. He devotes it in person in 1499 in the presence of his older brother.
The count-bishop receives the king of France Louis XII in his Cathédrale in 1513. He dies in 1521 and is done buried in the chorus, where a plate points out the site of its tomb. Its nephew Charles de Villiers (death in 1535), which succeeds his/her Antoine father like lord of Isle-Adam, also reaches évêché of Beauvais in 1530.
