Louis Vitet

Louis Vitet (Lyon, August 3rd 1736 - Paris, May 25th 1809) was a doctor and politician French which was mayor of Lyon.

After studies ches the Jesuits, it left to Montpellier to make medicine. It was aggregate with the College of the Doctors of Lyon

Under the Revolution

He was elected mayor of Lyon in 1789, become president of the departmental administration after having refused the mandate of deputy to the legislative Assemblée. Elected to Convention by the Department of the Rhone, it was sent on mission in Lyon as of the opening of the session, to restore the order there. In February 1793 it had obtained a leave " for reason of santé" and, not having returned, outgoing on July 15th, 1793 was declared. It took again its place with Convention in ventôse year III (March 1795). He was elected with the Council of the Five hundreds.

By noting the abuses within the Lyons hospitals, it rose and proposed reforms necessary. It establishes a free school midwives.

Member of the Academy of Lyon by succeeding Pierre Pepper in 1786.

Policy

  • 1790 (December) - Appointed mayor of Lyon unanimously.

  • 1792 - not being able to reconcile medicine and policy, he resigned.
  • 1792 - Representative of the people to the Convention, on the benches of the Of Gironde.
  • 1793 (May 31st) - Fall of the Of Gironde, had to be exiled in Suisse.
  • 1794 (July 27th) - Returned to the policy.
  • 1795 - 1799 - Member of the the Council of the Five hundred. Hostile to the coup d'etat of brumaire, it turns over to its scientific work.
