Biography
In 1604, Louis V of Hesse-Darmstadt inherited Hesse-Marburg after death without posterity of Louis IV of Hesse-Marburg. Maurice de Hesse inherited Hesse-Cassel, but this one having chosen for the Calvinism Louis V of Hesse-Darmstadt asserted a right on the unit of Hesse-Marburg. It resulted from it a long conflict between Louis V from allied Hesse-Darmstadt of the emperor of the Roman Holy roman Empire Germanic and Maurice de Hesse-Cassel which lined up at the sides of the evangelists, this war lasted thirty years.
Louis V of Hesse-Darmstadt belonged to branch of Hesse-Darmstadt, this second branch is resulting from the first branch of the Maison of Hesse, itself resulting from the first branch of the House of the Brabant.
Louis V of Hesse-Darmstadt is the direct ancestor of Marie-Antoinette of Austria, Alix de Hesse and of the Rhine, also of the prince Charles of Wales.
